At last we have found real time, accurate journalistic reporting on the stand off and related background developments in the form of Japan's English Language daily THE ASAHI SHIMBUN. Their coverage this morning tends to confirm our analysis that the apparent on rush of a claimed 1,000 fishing boats and government vessel escorts out of China headed to the disputed Senkaku / Dinoyu was a feint, but a signal that harassment tactics will continue at sea indefinitely. Japan has to take each such feint seriously because China has earned its "street creds" in these disputes by its mass murder of Vietnamese navy sailors in 1988, when their campaign to turn the China sea into a Chinese lake opened with rounds of machine gun fire. At the time Vietnam was no friend of the U.S. and the conflict didn't draw much U.S. attention being a Communist on Communist conflict. U.S. concern has risen as the Dragon has turned its attention on territory of the Philippines and Japan, nations that we have formal defense treaties with.
American Admiralty Books is not a news service. We really aren't staffed to follow a story of this type. But we found it shocking that the ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and FOX have all barely paid any attention at all to this story. Nor have we found much on it in English language U.S., Canadian, or UK news papers. We have contacts and some access to Japanese and Chinese media,and various commercial vessel tracking systems. Far too much of our understanding of the situation up until this morning's issue of the ASAHI SHIMBUN came out was derived from our own sources. We don't have the staff to stay on the situation 24 hours. But we had vowed to continue monitoring it as best we could until there was reliable news coverage of the events.
We believe that the English language version of ASAHI SHIMBUN is a reliable source so we will now drop our independent effort and start linking you to this professional journalistic source.
