35,000 Walrus Come Ashore In Northwest Alaska

That's the story by AP and our links above take you to their story as they wrote it.However, we have to note that unlike the AP, or for that matter NOAA according to the quotes from AP, we don't believe that global warming has anything to do with this haul out of walrus. That's not to say that local warming in the immediate vicinity of this event hasn't happened, its just that global warming of ocean temperatures is not happening . There is some warming in parts of the Pacific Basin while the entire North Atlantic has experienced a surface water temperature inversion.  As we have noted many times the global temperature is in fact not rising and has not been for years. Last year was the second in a series of exceptionally cold winters,and as we have noted we just experienced the Atlantic Ocean surface temperature inversion. ( See The Apparent Halt in Global Warming ). Based on that 20 to 30 year event independent climatologists are predicting a return to the winter temperature regime of 1945-1970. Towards the end of that period climate alarmists were predicting a coming ice age. Instead we had an 18 year warming cycle now ending that slowed then halted years ago. 

  Previously we provided reports of the seasonal increase in High Arctic Ice cover the last two winters. Even this summer when it is normal for the ice sheet to drastically decrease the over all average is up over recent years.  The event photographed took place around September 13, 2014, Summer ends September 21st. So it would be normal for sea ice to be at its lowest concentration at that time. Mass Walrus haulouts of this magnitude have doubtless happened before in cycles. You'll note that in the photograph taken some years ago  above the Walrus pair depicted are on dry land not ice. Walrus haul outs on dry land are in fact quite common at this time of the year. One has to ask why does the Obama administration, Democrats in general, and the national media insist on global warming nearly 24 months after the facts are in convincingly demonstrating that we are headed back into a cooling cycle?

  Last year quite  a few climate alarmists realizing that the data had changed adopted a new mantra of "climate change" acknowledging that the climate in fact was no longer warming but blaming human activity on the "change" . The Obama Administration and big media have come back strong in the last 12 months insisting that its "global warming" yet unable to explain the contrary data. Why the insistence?  FOLLOW THE MONEY. Not only has the global warming scare made Al Gore rich, but the government has invested billions of taxpayer dollars on programs that are only worthwhile if the there is in fact global warming, mere "change" won't do it. If the Democrats can just hold back the public realization that they've been had they may be able to hold on to the Senate and get a third term in the White House for someone. Then there are all of the large companies that have bet millions on the official government predictions, mostly they are going to lose those bets costing stockholders and employees big time. As we noted in these pages at the start of the summer, the Canadian Transport Ministry has already begun to pull back from the view that decreased ice cover and increased Arctic shipping are a sure bet.
