IN THE NEWS :

We ended last week with North Korea rolling out missiles to their coast, cutting hot lines, re-declaring a state of war, threatening the U.S. with a nuclear strike. Things have not improved. China is over flying the Philippines, announcing that it is opening islands that it doesn't own to tourism, continuing to make trouble through out the East and South China Seas. We continue to see the Far East as the number one trouble spot. The Middle East is far from peaceful, but most of the unrest there is from non state organizations, and failing states. Today we explore an idea by the Saudis to bypass the irksome Strait of Hormuz via a canal they propose to build.  In the Far East real major powers are tap dancing on the line between war and peace with major navies, air power, and vast armies coming into play and nuclear teeth already being displayed. The Philippines as we report today is exerting its sovereignty and the Dragon is never happy about that. We think the Far East is more dangerous powder keg but one misstep in either area could be a disaster. The United States simply must have overwhelming naval power or retreat to "Fortress America", our enemies are just too numerous and wide spread for any half way measures. With 66 of 77 strategic materials coming to us by sea we can't afford to protect our sea lines of communication on the cheap.
