Sturgeon grow slowly but live a very long time and continue growing. Many species are endangered and they aren't exactly game fish. But they are where legal, targeted by sports fishermen, mostly for catch and release. They are wide ranging and in more northerly waters present in many places the only opportunity to catch a man sized or larger fish. Its the "man sized or larger", particularly the "or larger" part that received some media attention yesterday. In Canada a father and son team landed one of about  884 pounds. Really serious human fat guys start out at about 300 pounds and humanoids over 450 pounds are almost unheard of. This fish was like the size of two of the biggest humans you could imagine. The Sturgeon, to put it mildly, wasn't happy about the hook in its jaw.
