Elliott Seeks Second Argentine Naval Vessel In Africa

Elliot, the Hedge Fund that got away with seizing the Argentine Navy's tall ship and national symbol LIBERTAD is starting proceedings on a second Argentine naval vessel presently undergoing repairs in an African state.

OPINION: As a matter of international law no national court system may seize a naval vessel of another nation, certainly no creditor of a nation has rights of seizure on the navy of a nation state. This is the world turned upside down when a bunch of ruthless investment bankers who refused to join other creditors in a settlement with Argentina are allowed to seize war ships and national symbols. Shame on the U.S. court that didn't throw the bankers out on their ear, shame on any and every African court that cooperates in any such seizure. This is important! Do we want the planet run by nation states and international associations of nation states, or do we want it ruled by corporations. Anyone who thinks corporations would do a better job had better look at the history of the Dutch East India Company's absolute rule over the Spice Islands a few centuries back. In one "company town" with a population of 600, there were 30 executions in 30 days at one point, including quite a number of company employees. Few of the offenses would have amounted to a felony in any municipal code today. Executions were public and cruel and served one purpose only to keep people toeing the corporate line. So they dragged someone out and killed him or her (they executed men women and children) at a rate of about one per day at times and in certain places just because they could and they wanted to make a point about who was in charge. This is the rule of law that the Elliot case precedent will lead to.

U.S. Navy Sending ships to New York and New Jersey to Assist with Disaster Relief

The U.S. Navy is sending three large-deck amphibious ships to waters off of New York and New Jersey to assist in storm recovery and relief, according to the Navy’s chief of information.

“The Navy is moving ships to be closer to the areas affected by the hurricane,” Rear Admiral John Kirby, the service’s chief spokesman, said in a blog posting today.

The Pentagon said in a separate update on military assistance that 10,000 Army and Air Force National Guard personnel have been mobilized to provide support in the 13 states that were hit hardest by superstorm Sandy.

Russia On Target To Float Out Five Warships Each Year

Russian shipyards will float out five combat and auxiliary ships for the Russian Navy each year in line with the existing shipbuilding program, Navy chief Adm. Viktor Chirkov said on Wednesday.

LAGOS, Nigeria — Kidnappers freed six Russian sailors and an Estonian who had been abducted from a ship off Nigeria’s southern delta, a French oil and gas services company and the military said Thursday.

Paris-based Bourbon SA said in a statement that the sailors were in good health despite facing “difficult conditions while in captivity.” The company said the men would leave Nigeria in several days after undergoing medical tests and psychological examinations.

Iran warships leave Sudan after four-day stay

Two Iranian warships left Sudan on Wednesday after a visit that drew attention to the countries' military ties less than a week after Khartoum accused Israel of bombing a Sudanese arms factory.

Spain’s Southern Coast Dealing with Massive Immigrant Arrivals

Spain’s southern coast is experiencing the massive arrival of Sub-Saharan immigrants in open boats, a situation that the secretary-general of immigration and emigration on Tuesday linked to the good weather in the region.

Since Sunday, 95 immigrants traveling in 16 open boats have been rescued in the Strait of Gibraltar off the coast of Spain’s Andalusia region.
