LOUISIANA CREWMEN RELEASED FROM NIGERIAN PIRATE CAPTIVITY
Today local South East Louisiana Television and radio stations announced that the Captain and Chief Engineer kidnapped off of a Louisiana owned Edison Chouest offshore service vessel several weeks ago were released. Their names have still not been released. No details of the release have been discussed with the local media except to confirm that no rescue by either U.S. or Nigerian armed forces occurred. Generally such a release absent rescue indicates that a ransom was paid. Below is a link to the original news story and a reprint of some background information that we published shortly after the story broke.

The reliable internet maritime news source "g-captain" reports that the Nigerian organization that kidnapped the Captain and Chief Engineer of the American flag , Louisiana owned Edison Chouest offshore service vessel C-RETRIEVER had contacted the company's Nigerian shore office prior to the incident and demanded that more locals be hired or the organization would kidnap crews and burn ships. We believe the the pirates had specific locals in mind who would facilitate less risky robbery of the vessels for the fuel trade.
