TYPHOON MOVED THROUGH THE PHILIPPINES QUICKLY

NEWS FLASH:

THE RAPID MOVEMENT OF TYPHOON HAIYAN OVER THE PHILIPPINES MAY HAVE LIMITED DAMAGES TO MANAGEABLE PROPORTIONS

Fast moving tropical storms tend to not drop as much rain on an area as slow moving storms and Typhoon Haiyan moved quickly through the Philippines. Damage reports are not complete yet but indications are that relatively limited rain fall caused by the storm's rapid passage over the islands eliminated some of the worst types of inland flooding and mud slide damage that are often associated with a tropical storm passage. The storm's next predicted land fall is Vietnam.

Editor's Note:  Northern parts of the Spratly Islands may not have been hit as hard as originally anticipated. Nonetheless we'd bet a lot of the Chinese vessels have departed. We know the Philippine Navy and Coast Guard have their hands full at the moment, but the moment is ripe for a recon in force of the area.
