Naval Interest:

INDIA AND PAKISTAN DISCUSS SECURITY ON THE HIGH SEAS080823-N-1635S-002

 To avert military confrontations on the high seas similar to the games of "sea chicken " played by the United States and the Soviet Union during the worst days of the Cold War; India and Pakistan are discussing establishing direct navy to navy contacts. The system might involve a communication hot line comparable to that already established between the two armies. Both nations are nuclear armed and have experienced wars with each other over contested territory and disputed borders. The proposal comes in the wake of incidents involving the PNS BABUR and the INS  GODAVARI in which the BABUR brushed the INS GODAVARI in the Gulf of ADEN last year.
