This week we continue our coverage of the Syrian Intervention Proposal, but we also examine other on going maritime issues. The Dragon continues to swim, Indeed Monday we noted that an entire flotilla of Dragon Coast Guard ships paraded through Japanese waters like they owned the place. The Bear came forward with something that we hope might actually be helpful in Syria. Pirates continue to prowl. A colder than recently High Arctic summer brings navigational, economic, and security issues that must be explored. TODAY THE GREAT NAMAZU EXPLORES ANOTHER LITTLE KNOWN ELEMENT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ,AND WE LOOK AT SOME DUBIOUS MARITIME BUSINESS DECISIONS BEING MADE THAT PRESUME CONTINUED GLOBAL WARMING. The maritime world is as busy and dangerous as ever. But you can track it all in our blog space and special interest pages. Today we visit some Arctic issues. Below are some direct links to recent posts on the Syrian Intervention in order of occurrence from the first, Namazu's proposal for dealing with Syria after the Chemical attack to latest related posts from earlier in the week. Yesterday Syria seemed to retreat a bit on the Russian proposal, demanding that the U.S. stop threatening the use of force. While we back the Namazu/Pope Francis plan which is big enough to accommodate the Russian plan, we think at least the threat of force has to be behind such plans, these plans are after all alternatives to force, but anyone who uses WMDs has earned death themselves. The truth is our only threat of force comes from naval forces which we could easily withdraw from the strike zone at considerable cost savings to us, and bring them right back if needed in a matter of days. We suppose we could let Syria save some face and us a few million bucks by a withdrawal of naval forces.

We have had nearly double our normal readership since last week, mostly on key word searches indicating that these new folks were looking for Syrian news and analysis.
