THE DRAGON IS HACKING US MARITIME FIRMS TO GAIN DATA FOR NAVAL USE

HOW FAR WILL THE DRAGON SWIM FOR TACTICAL DATA?

Public Domain

The STRAITS TIMES reports that the Dragon in the form of Chinese cyber forces have started to hack U.S. maritime companies and their clients in an attempt to obliquely obtain data on US naval capabilities in the South China Sea or U.S. capabilities that might be deployed there in the near future there .  According to the linked article the Dragon hackers are cyber attacking mainly U.S. engineering and defense firms that they have linked to U.S. naval or their commercial client's operations in the South China sea.

The Dragon's hackers are after strategically useful data and some tactical data as well. The type of data sought such as radar ranges and the operational parameters of certain ship board sensors are of a type more likely to be sought out by naval intelligence operatives than industrial spies. Could this be an indication that the Dragon intends to stand its ground to the end in its great land grab of the Exclusive Economic Zones of its neighbors in the South China Sea?
