When several of us taught the nautical arts and sciences to offshore oil and mineral support fleet officers and crewmen at the Louisiana Marine and Petroleum Institute. petroleum industry jargon and technology was as important as basic navigation and seamanship. Imagine if you will, the expense and corporate embarrassment that would befall a vessel if the Captain of an OCS supply boat were sent into port to pick up a load of casing pipe but returned with a load of drill pipe. The operative word given over the radio that the untrained would absorb would be "pipe". While casing pipe and drill pipe are quite different in diameter, the difference is not so obvious to the untrained. If you are involved in the transportation of oil drilling , exploration, or production equipment from truck driver to supply vessel captain or transportation manager or dispatcher and have not taken a formal course in Petroleum industry technology, this book could be a career saver. If you serve on the board of a corporation involved in petroleum industry equipment or cargo carriage and don't have field experience or a degree in petroleum engineering we highly recommend this book. We think the advertising that accompanied its release to the public is accurate , in fact, understated. So for more on contents and benefits we've simply reprinted parts of the release copy below. We've included an operative " ORDER" button directly to the vendor PennWell Books (pennwellbooks.com)
