THE EUROPEAN UNION NAVAL FORCE , SOMALIA
Known as "EU NAVFOR" the European Union Naval Forces is a combined international force independent of NATO, though some individual ships may be assigned by their supporting nation's navy to duty alternately with NATO. EU NAVFOR is a major contributor to piracy protection in the waters off Somalia. We've picked up on a number of stories of late of pirate captures and pirate boardings interrupted by this naval force. As we have mentioned many times we carry a number of daily information sources on piracy useful for voyage planning or general research in our News Section. We'd like to carry more specific news on the fine work being done by the various international naval forces operating off Somalia but as we have said so often we are not a news agency and piracy is a daily maritime subject. So we provide links to those who follow the issue daily. EU NAVFOR is one of those links and for journalist or students researching modern piracy they are particularly interesting since they are a primary source, daily pirate fighters.
