YEAR END REPORT TO READERS:

HOW FAR WILL TH E DRAGON SWIM? CHINA'S NAVAL EXPANSION AND AGGRESSIVE MOVES ON THE TERRITORIAL SEAS OF ITS NEIGHBORS, INCLUDING NATIONS LINKED TO TH E UNITED STATES LIKE THE PHILIPPINES AND JAPAN CONTINUES AS OUR NUMBER ONE MARITIME WAR AND PEACE ISSUE TO MONITOR IN 2013. WE MAY WELL HAVE TO FIGHT IRAN IN THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ FIRST, BUT A FIGHT WITH CHINA PITS US AND OUR STRONGEST PACIFIC ALLIES AGAINST OUR LARGEST CREDITOR AND MAJOR SUPPLY SOURCE. SUCH A WAR CAN'T POSSIBLY DO ANYONE ANY GOOD WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF ALLOWING THE UNITED STATES TO REPUDIATE ITS DEBT TO CHINA WITHOUT REAL CONSEQUENCE TO ITS INTERNATIONAL CREDIT RATING. NO ONE EXPECTS A NATION AT WAR TO FUND ITS ENEMY. BUT THIS IS AN ESPECIALLY TROUBLESOME POTENTIAL CONTEST OF ARMS. BOTH SIDES ARE NUCLEAR POWERS THE UNITED STATES HAS NEVER SIGNED THE NO FIRST USE AGREEMENT AND THE WORD OF CHINA CAN NOT BE TRUSTED. THE DRAGON IS PLAYING A VERY DANGEROUS GAME. ONE FALSE STEP COULD SPELL RUIN FOR THREE OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST ECONOMIES OR REDUCTION TO ASHES. THE NATIONAL MEDIA CONTINUES TO OFFER ONLY SPORADIC AND UN- ASTUTE COVERAGE OF THE RELATED INCIDENTS. WE WILL CONTINUE IN 2013 TO MAKE THIS A MAJOR FOCUS OF OUR NEWS SERVICE UNTIL THE MAJOR MEDIA WAKES UP. AS 2013 THE DRAGON IS SWIMMING FROM THE HIGH ARCTIC SHORES OF ALASKA ACROSS THE PACIFIC AND BEYOND. BUT TO ITS NEARBY NEIGHBORS IT NOT A CURIOSITY BUT A REAL THREAT. WE ARE BOUND TO SOME OF THOSE NEIGHBORS BY FORMAL DEFENSE TREATY AND TO THE DRAGON BY VAST TRADE AND DEBT.

THE MAJOR PROBLEM FACING THE BLOG IN 2013

Our Blog is a public service maritime information site focused on books and to a lesser extend other forms of English language data on maritime subjects both professional and recreational such as videos and on line seminars, and professional associations. We are attempting to fund the effort through Amazon book and video sales, sales of activity related equipment through Amazon portal "shops" in our FISHING, SURFING, and DIVING SECTIONS and advertising revenue. We provide links to important professional associations, and other sites free, we provide ISBN numbers on reviewed books to facilitate library loans. There is no requirement to purchase books through Amazon, we provide links to less expensive vendors when we are aware of them. We do accept responsible and related advertising from Google but only between posts. We do not run banners or annoying pop ups.

Unfortunately much of what we consider vital information that we want to provide to you is accomplished through hyper links that advertising reduction software treats as advertisement and blocks. For example for each book we review we provide a little book cover icon that links you directly to the Amazon site for the book where you may read reviews other than ours, check out the customer ratings, or in fact purchase the book. We also often simply feature book cover icons to related titles that we feel you may be interest in that we have not yet reviewed. When advertising reduction soft ware is on you see only our book review. The applicable book cover icon and all related book cover icons disappear. The advertising reduction software simply eliminates the book cover icons because it has judged them "advertising".

We try to be as information dense as we can. Even if you click into our site from a less than optimum browser with the world's best advertising reduction soft ware on, you will be able to read 100% of our produced content which is the vast majority of the site content and probably as much as 75% of our hyper linked content exclusive of our book cover icons. We are working constantly to improve our performance on I phones, pads, and other devices and across a variety of web browsers and despite the presence of advertising reduction soft ware. We will not try to "cure" our weak financial performance by simply running more advertising and resorting to banners and pop ups. We will continue to be selective in our permitted advertisers, and in the placement of our ads so as not to annoy, distract, or delay our visitors search for information.

Unfortunately the technological battle against advertising clutter and the public reaction to it never ends. It is costing us a fortune but we assure you we will stay on line through 2013. You can help us keep the site up, improving, and free to the visitor by occasionally making an Amazon purchase through us or clicking on an actual advertisement found between posts. For the time being, while we continue to work on reception improvement in all browsers and despite the increasingly wide spread advertising reduction software related problems the optimum way to view this site is still via Google chrome, with advertising reduction software turned off. We than you for your patronage through out our first year of operation 2012. We look forward to providing the service into 2013 and beyond. We will continue this report to our readers on other aspects of the blog's development throughout this week. Our readers are our most important developers of this site. You literally are our only "Board of Directors".
