IN THE BLOG POSTS TODAY

Today we post the first of two semi annual reports on the economic health of the American Merchant Marine. We usually divide the report into two sections one for the domestic Jones Act service, and one for the international service. However this year's drought conditions in the Mississippi Valley so negatively impacted the towboat and barge industry that we have made that segment of the Jones Act trades the subject of a separate report. The reports will continue into the remainder of this week. Previous reports from 2012 are posted in our News section.

On Sunday we restored the daily station identifications from last week. This splits last week's blog postings into smaller segments divided by the daily station IDs and Notices from the days the postings actually appeared.  So if you are scrolling down to find the latest from Namazu, or our post about our daily piracy updates, or latest assessment on Chinese maritime aggression, or our amazement over the discovery of a Somali pirate retirement program you'll encounter more of our green sails heralding previews of the day but also some news and comment that doesn't appear anywhere else.  We like to save these Notice Boards and in the order that they first appeared in. Following Sunday's Station Identification and Notice Board which appears below today's posts you will find last week's posts on piracy, Chinese maritime aggression, and the latest from Namazu. To your right are the list and links to our special interest sections such as ADMIRALTY LAW, AUTHORITATIVE LITERATURE NAVAL INTEREST,  MERCHANT MARINE INTEREST,  OCEANOGRAPHY,  DIVING, SURFING, SAILING,  BOAT BUILDING ETC.  As this new week progresses we may temporarily take down some daily station IDs and Notice Boards to facilitate scrolling to the week's blog postings of interest. We tend to draw attention to items of high interest from the previous day in the daily Notice Board.
