AS NAVIGATORS WE HAVE AN AFFINITY FOR CHARTS, MAPS, AND CARTOGRAPHY AS A WAY OF PRESENTING INFORMATION
Map: CIA's WORLD FACT BOOK
We have in our NAVIGATION SECTION a subsection on CARTOGRAPHY where we like to collect links to sites that explain all sorts of information using traditional cartographic techniques. Properly prepared maps can present all sorts of information on subjects that go far beyond how to navigate from point A to Point B. Our single most popular post within the blog is a simple link to "THE WORLD EXPLAINED IN 40 MAPS a cartographic presentation by the Washington Post. Recently we came across a similar presentation by an organization called VOX and an author / editor named Max Fisher. Unlike the global content of ,THE WORLD EXPLAINED IN 40 MAPS this new link "40 Maps That Explain The Middle East" deals with the Middle East, the region depicted on the CIA WORLD FACT BOOK map illustrated above. We found this new site extremely informative and will be placing the link to it permanently in our NAVIGATION AND CARTOGRAPHY SECTION . We try to alert our general readers when we find something like this of interest and long term utility. Unfortunately we have found that our daily posts, tweets, Facebook postings, and G mail posts are a very big and not well organized collection and our key word search engine seems to be more of a title search engine. So the really utilitarian stuff we try to find a permanent home for in our subject matter reference pages. These are listed to your right at the home page and each listing is a hot link to the special interest page . Just click on the name of the special interest page and you're there. Each Special Interest Page contains books, book reviews and recommendations, videos, links to free videos, links to specialized sites on the particular subjects aligned with the page title, and some cases descriptions and contact information for relevant schools and training institutions.
We highly recommend "40 Maps That Explain The Middle East" as a quick visual reference guide and background source for this most complex and constantly news making region.
