EDITORS NOTE: For some time now we have been advocating that every American should read this book and or watch the movie starring Steve McQueen in order to come to a better understanding of Cabotage law,  the law common to most coastal nations that restrict the shipping between domestic ports to vessels flying the actual flag of the coastal state. Mr. Holmes explores other works of former Chief Petty Officer Mckenna in addition to the SAND PEBBLES and makes an excellent case that while McKenna wrote historical fiction his works provide unique historical insight and texture to any study of the Far East. Mr. Holmes specifically mentions THE LEFT HANDED MONKEY WRENCH in his recommendations for "getting" Far Eastern history and culture:

We recommend Mr. Holmes observations to all of our readers concerned with the Far East. Here is the link to the DIPLOMAT:  HOLMES/DIPLOMAT
