KODIAK ISLAND, ALASKA Two Coast Guard Petty Officers involved in radio antenna construction and maintenance at a Kodiak Island Alaska Coast Guard Communications Station were found shot to death last spring. Authorities at the time indicated that the deaths were likely a double murder. For months no arrests were made.The deceased are Petty Officer 1st Class James Hopkins and Electronic Technician Richard Belisle an electronics technician and retired Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer..
A local Kodiak man was arrested Friday for the murders. James Michael Wells is accused in a federal complaint of shooting to death Petty Officer First Class James Hopkins, USCG and retired Chief Boatswain's mate Richard Belisle , USCG last April.
A Coast Guard member found the bodies shortly after the pair were supposed to report for work at the communications station. Their bodies were found in a building where radio antennas are repaired. There has been no word yet on possible motives. The suspect, Wells was a civilian employee of the Coast Guard who worked with both of the victims.
